Toronto police homicide detective Christopher Ruhl told CP24 that the victim was with some friends, apparently listening to music, when a second vehicle approached.

A man, 33, has been shot to death outside the North York Sheridan Mall in what seems to be a gang related settling of scores.

Police said that the suspects ambushed Clarke after he returned to his auto in the parking lot. Chris Ruhl said Saturday morning.

Toronto police say the victim, 32-year-old John Trevor Paul, was pronounced dead in hospital.

Following the shooting, the victim was taken to a trauma centre via emergency run with life-threatening injuries.

Locals told CBC Toronto that they hope police can do something to curb the intermittent violence that has put people on edge in a neighbourhood with a strong sense of community.

His name has not yet been released as police are working to notify next of kin. Officers also released a surveillance camera image of the suspect vehicle involved.

It is not immediately clear where the shooting itself took place.

Last month, terrified shoppers ran for cover during the busy dinner hour at the mall as Jovane Clarke, 22, was chased inside from the parking garage and gunned down.

Anyone with further information regarding Friday night's shooting is asked to call police at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
