There are more than a dozen carriers around the world with support for the Apple Watch, and that number will nearly double later this year.

Shares of Fitbit Inc. surged 3% in morning trade Wednesday, with Stifel Nicolaus saying the fitness band maker's Ionic "enjoys distinctions" when compared with Apple Inc.'s new Apple Watch 3.

Apple also unveiled its its latest watch which allows users to make calls, send messages and stream music without a connection to a smartphone. And, wireless firms may count Apple Watch users as new subscribers the same as tablets.

"Customers will be able to order Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) beginning Friday September 15, with availability beginning Friday September 22 in Australia". That's useful for when you're working out, for instance, and want to leave your phone safe and sound in the locker, or even at home.

Apple have unveiled the iPhone X a special version of the phone to mark its tenth anniversary. With GPS and tracking of more kinds of exercise routines, sales jumped, with Tim Cook bragging about a 50% increase during his company's quarterly earnings call last month.

The new Watch follows the same general design scheme as its predecessors, but is marked off by a bold red top to its digital crown.

Software-wise, Apple Watch 3 will run on watchOS 4. Apple was able to turn the display into an antenna for UMTS and LTE, which saves a lot of space. Fitbit's Ionic watch is a competitor to Apple's Apple watch 3. This could be a sign of a heart condition and the app will let you monitor it.

Apple claims its new Series 3, on the other hand, will have up to 18 hours of battery life and is just a fraction of a millimeter thicker that its previous Series 2. As with before, the new Watches also contain a Global Positioning System radio for mapping and fitness functions, and are water resistant for swimming workouts.

The internet-connected version of the Watch connects to the internet using the on-board LTE radio. The Series 3 will notify you if it detects an elevated heart rate when you're not active.

What may hold some consumers back is the monthly recurring charge, which would far exceed the extra cost of the Series 3 over older watches over time, said Brian Blau, an Apple analyst with Gartner.

Coming to the connectivity, apart from Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Global Positioning System, the new Apple Watch features LTE connectivity as well.
