Life works in mysterious and hilarious ways sometimes.

Carton was arrested last Wednesday and charged with conspiracy and wire and securities fraud in connection with an alleged Ponzi scheme tied to a ticket reselling business.

Smith is still in New York, but no longer with the Jets - he signed a deal this offseason with the New York Giants and won the backup quarterback job behind Eli Manning. "The universe has an unbelievable sense of humor!"

It was unclear when Smith alleges Carton called him a "thug". But Smith was certainly ripped by Carton and his partner, ex-Jet quarterback Boomer Esiason, plenty of times on their showover the years.

In a statement released Tuesday, Carton said, "it's been incredibly hard to be silent while there is an endless stream of vitriol being hurled my way, but I'm confident that when the facts come out, you'll see that I am not guilty of these charges".

WFAN's co-host of the "Boomer and Carton" show allegedly duped investors out of $5.6 million to cover a large amount of gambling debts, authorities said.

Carton has spent the past decade co-hosting a sports-talk radio show with former National Football League quarterback Boomer Esiason called "Boomer and Carton" on WFAN. "My fight has only just begun and I know when this odd episode is over, I'll be back, stronger than ever". Carton, 48, of Manhattan, remains free on $500,000 bail. Carton has been suspended indefinitely by WFAN.
