Actress Anne Nhira, popularly known as Vimbai Jari from Studio 263, has become "Public Enemy Number One" after seemingly getting Zodwa Wabantu banned from performing at the Harare International Carnival (HIC).

"This is an worldwide event to promote the image of Zimbabwe".

Cape Town - It seems like popular dancer Zodwa Wabantu will be performing in Zimbabwe. She also said her revealing "style" can't be much more of an issue than Brazilian dancers who are scheduled to perform.

"In this regard, relevant authorities have been notified". Other local acts that have been invited include Babes Wodumo, Busiswa and Uhuru.

Zodwa Wabantu at the Durban July earlier this year.

There were reports that Wabantu, whose real name is Zodwa Libram, is lesbian but she has dismissed them. In Zimbabwe same-sex activity is illegal.

"The Zimbabwean Government has made the decision and I'm happy with their decision as stated in the letter from the Acting Minister of Tourism - Minister of Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment, Honourable Patrick Zhuwao after receiving my letter of concern together with Ministry of Women Affairs and Ministry of Rural Development," posted Nhira.

SOUTH African entertainer Zodwa Wabantu, famed for her skimpy dresses and not wearing panties, yesterday said she was flying to Zimbabwe despite her "ban" by government authorities. "They contacted me today (yesterday) to organise the plane ticket bookings".

"I am here as a Zimbabwean and I choose who I should associate with", said Nhira in a brief interview.

I know I have been vilified for standing for what I believe in but that to me is what defines freedom of expression and association. I however respect the fact that for their entertainment some would want to see Zodwa perform which again you can equally lobby for.
