According to a report from the Daily Mail, Everton's immediate plans for Nikola Vlasic, should they get a deal for the midfielder across the line, may well be dependent on what happens with Ross Barkley during the final days of the window.

Ronald Koeman has already completed a major overhaul of his squad but the arrival of 19-year-old Vlasic is a bolt from the blue.

The eight-times Croatia worldwide would vie with the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson, Ademola Lookman, Aaron Lennon and Yannick Bolasie for a likely place on the wings for the Blues, and would be a suitable replacement for the apparently out-of-favour Kevin Mirallas.

Koeman has made no secret of his desire to acquire a new striker before the transfer deadline in order to plug the considerable gap left by Romelu Lukaku's switch to Manchester United, with Chelsea rebel Diego Costa, Cardiff City marksman Kenneth Zohore and Benfica's Raul Jimenez all said to be on the Dutchman's radar.

Whilst the teenager can expect to face stiff competition for a place in Koeman's starting XI, despite the mooted departure of winger Kevin Mirallas to Greek side Olympiacos, his versatility will boost his chances of getting minutes under his belt for the Toffees.

Hajduk's manager Ivan Kos admitted on Monday that Vlasic could be sold before Thursday's deadline and the Croatian Football Federation confirmed on Tuesday that he had been allowed to leave the U21 squad. We'll keep track of how things are going'.

"We don't want to lose 1% of our quality [but] we also have to think about financial stability".
