It may have taken two years, but Katy Independent School District has finally fulfilled its legacy- Legacy Stadium that is.

All eyes will be on Katy ISD as the district dedicates its $70 million stadium to the world Thursday night. "It's something that this community wanted", Superintendent Lance Hindt said.

Voters approved a bond project to build Legacy Stadium in 2014, KPRC reported, with the original cost set previous year at $58 million.

The $70 million stadium has made national news because of its price tag.

In a previous story, a school district spokeswoman said the stadium is expected to bring in $500,000 in revenues each year. "I don't think the cost was anything that they really looked into".

"It's going to be a landmark for Katy", said Marita Condinato, whose daughter is in the Katy High School band.

The school district said the stadium will serve more than 77,000 students and community members across the city.

"Through creative scheduling, we were actually able to get each of our seven varsity football teams, a home game within the first three weeks of the stadium opening", said Debbie Decker, Katy ISD executive director of athletics.

A small town in southeast Texas unveiled its brand-new $70 million high school football stadium, the most expensive such venue in the country - for now.

"If you go upstairs [the field house] we utilize it with staff for staff development", explained Hindt.
