For the general public, the 4G VoLTE smart feature phone will be available for pre-booking from August 24.

Reliance Jio started beta testing for JioPhone, the first ever 4G feature phone, from today before releasing it in open markets.

The long wait for Jio Phone has finally come to an end today as beta testing of the feature phone starts on Tuesday i.e. 15th August.

If you're a business, you need to provide details such as contact name, company name, pin code, PAN number or GST number, email ID, and phone number. You can also head to the online page to pre-book the JioPhone.

Reliance JioPhone houses a single-SIM (compatible with Reliance Jio only) and can be purchased off-the-shelf with refundable (after 36 months) payment of Rs. 1,500.

To pre-book JioPhone, users can register their interest on the Jio website by clicking on the "Keep me posted" link.

The delivery of Jio phone will take place on "first come, first serve" basis.

Touted as a smartphone for the feature phone users of India, the Reliance JioPhone was revealed by Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani during the 40th AGM of the company in July. This means that users can claim the deposit after three years given they hand over the JioPhone back.

Talking about Jio Phone features, the device comes with an alphanumeric keypad, 2.4-inch display with QVGA display, microSD card slot, torchlight, FM radio. It will not only give the company a chance to study the factors that can go wrong but also help the company a chance to determine if the existing features need to be fine tuned. When they go to pick up their phone, they can then pay for it. The phone also comes with a distress button which would send a message to near and dear ones in case the phone user is in distress and presses the button. It supports 22 Indian languages.

The company is also offering a few modified unlimited data plans with the JioPhone.

Further, Voice will be free for life-time on JioPhone; however, customers will have to pay Rs 153 per month to access data (0.5 GB per day) services and various other entertainment content. On availing the Rs 309 monthly data plan, customers will be eligible for the JioPhone TV cable, which enables mirroring of the content onto a bigger screen.
