Karl Urban in talks for Judge Dredd TV series Mega-City One

According to Screen Geek, the producers of Judge Dredd: Mega City One have just confirmed that they have been in talks with Urban about reprising the lead role in the upcoming TV series. His only request? That they "write the material and give Dredd something to do and give him a function". While my love for Sylvester Stallone's mid-90s take on the character hasn't subsided in recent years (I YAM DER LAWR), I dug Urban's alternative approach.

This recent development confirms Urban's statement from yesterday that has the former star of Dredd intent on joining the cast of Judge Dredd: Mega City One. "I would love to", he said.

The Thor: Ragnarok actor appeared at last weekend's Star Trek Las Vegas Convention (via ComicBook.com), and fielded questions about the iconic sci-fi series, Discovery, and the current status of Star Trek 4.

Landing Urban for the series would be a great casting coup. But it'd be a wonderful way to get more of at least one version of Urban's Dredd if it actually does end up happening. So we're going to have some long and complicated conversations I would imagine, and we'll see where we go. "There's always a possibility he will be busy, or that his schedule for other movies won't allow- Basically, we don't know at this stage". Urban played Judge Dredd in the 2012 film Dredd, which was a cult favorite but not a hit at the box office.

"Judge Dredd: Mega-City One" will follow a group of Judges and the challenges they face in Mega-City One, a megapolis that encompasses much of the United States Eastern Coast.
