Priebus and Scaramucci flew together on Air Force One to the NY event, but the White House press pool reported they didn't see the communications director on the plane for the return trip. However, according to a source, he offered his resignation Thursday. I'll get to the person who leaked that to you. "Secretary Kelly is an outstanding leader who has served his country honorably and I know he will do an excellent job at the White House". "He has been a true star of my Administration", Trump tweeted.

Trump thanked Priebus for "his service and dedication" to the country. "The fact that we can't get it done in two swings at the plate or so - I look at these as foul balls, and I think our team is still in there swinging".

Scaramucci has come under intense criticism for the profane tirade, though it endeared him to some Trump supporters. As word spread about Priebus' dismissal, some reporters got up close to Priebus' auto, taking cell photos and such.

He also compared his relationship with Priebus to biblical brothers Cain and Abel, though he did not specify which of them in his Biblical metaphor represented the brother who killed the other. To be more precise, Mr Scaramucci called him "a fucking paranoid schizophrenic, a paranoiac", and predicted his imminent departure as chief of staff. He was also an important adviser to the president during the campaign and one of the first senior military officers to endorse Trump.

"I'm doing great", Priebus said.

"It's bothering our folks and this is not NY", said Hayes, in a reference to the home state of Scaramucci and Trump, as well as Trump's daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner - both of whom are White House advisers.

Trump hailed Kelly as one of his "great stars" Friday during speech in NY, in a bit of a preview of the decision - after a report said he wanted "a general" to serve as White House chief of staff. Priebus' auto then pulled aside, out of the POTUS motorcade. The president eventually emerged, umbrella in hand, and delivered a brief statement on the runway as driving rain poured. Denied his president's trust, Mr Priebus put his faith in proximity, reportedly scampering from one meeting to another and putting himself in the president's line of sight whenever possible.

Priebus' term ends in fewer than 200 days, the shortest tenure for any president's first White House chief of staff since the post was formally established in 1946.

Trump had lost confidence in Priebus, privately questioning his competence after major legislative items have failed to pass congress, someone close to Trump told Reuters news agency.

Reince Priebus told CNN that he resigned on Thursday, July 27, after a productive conversation with Trump. Most recently, Gingrich told Trump he should not fire Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

His exit had quietly been in the works for weeks.

General John Kelly is a lot like Donald Trump. But he decided on Kelly because he was impressed by the job he had done leading DHS and trusted him not to leak. His latest book is "Understanding Trump".

Priebus and other officials thought Scaramucci was unqualified for the job, and had blocked him from previous efforts to join the White House.

Trump made the comment to reporters after he tweeted the news that Priebus' successor as chief of staff is the secretary of homeland security, John Kelly.
