The Spain worldwide was thought to be on the cusp of a move to Madrid in 2015 before a deal fell through on La Liga's deadline day.

Transfer speculation over De Gea returning to hometown club Real has stretched on for the last two years, ever since the goalkeeper was a whisker away from heading to the Bernabeu in the summer of 2015.

The 26-year-old's future at the club looked grave when he scored two own goals in January, and Real are allowing him to move on despite him recovering to enjoy a fairly positive end to the last campaign.

"Obviously we want more consistency in his talent, I think today was a positive for him, that's why I left him for 90 minutes on the pitch, he was enjoying and trying things", Mourinho said.

Guardiola's presence was a factor in Danilo's decision, and he added: "Of course, he's been very important because I love his playing style and he's convinced me in the talks we have had".

"He's a very honest boy, very straight". As soon as I heard of his interest, I knew immediately I wanted to be a City player.

Once he starts bullying defenders, as well as beating them for speed and skill, we'll be talking about a world-class player.

United's chances are certainly boosted by the fact that this is the first friendly of Real Madrid's tour; United, by contrast, already have three full matches under their belts. "For me, he's the best in the world, so I want to keep him here at United".

The Spanish worldwide started ahead of Danilo in the Champions League final in Cardiff as Real Madrid beat Juventus 4-1 to lift their 12th European Cup.

Mourinho guaranteed that the keeper is staying with the Red Devils this season.

Mourinho said when asked about Bale's availability. It was clear that Bale likes Madrid, likes the situation and is in a club with a very good situation now.

"To make a better squad, but with the development of the market, you know, I was getting the feedback from Mr Woodward, I was analysing myself from distance because I never get involved. I like my group and players, and I go with them, but I still have the hope I can have a third player, maybe a fourth".
