Captain Marvel is the first female hero in the Marvel universe to headline her own film.

Marvel shared a first look at Brie Larson's Captain Marvel at San Diego Comic-Con on Sunday, getting us even more excited to see the actress in action as the superhero.

The film is set to hit theaters in 2019. The movie will be out in March 8, 2019, reported Entertainment Weekly. Jackson will reprise his role as the eye-patch-wearing Nick Fury last seen in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" as the head of special law enforcement agency S.H.I.E.L.D.

Marvel Studios' Captain Marvel is one of eight films which has been awarded incentive tax credits from the California state government to film in the state.

They are extraterrestrial shapeshifters, so you might see some similarities to Marvel's heroes among their ranks as they have imitated nearly all of them, including Deadpool, Thor, and Iron Man. Skrulls can shapeshift and are redoubtable enemies. That's before the Avengers assembled, before Thor came to Earth and before Captain America was thawed from a deep freeze, as Variety notes.

That Captain Marvel is set in the '90s isn't just exciting because we'll presumably get lots of nostalgic references and very rad fashion, but also because it would facilitate the return of a fan favorite Marvel character who has unfortunately passed away in present time: Peggy Carter, played by Hayley Atwell. Will they use makeup, prosthetics or digital technology?

If the film's producers give the Skrulls disguising abilities in the upcoming movie, Captain Marvel could have her hands full trying to neutralize this potential threat.
