Birmingham City in audacious loan bid for former England worldwide

This is an interesting admission from Redknapp considering after missing out on John Terry to Aston Villa, the Birmingham boss was quoted by the Mirror as saying he could sign "five or six players" with the money they would have had to pay Terry in wages.

Keane's Galaxy team-mate, former Arsenal and Chelsea left back Cole is also willing to consider a return to England with the Blues, after Redknapp expressed his interest in the former England worldwide over the weekend.

"Robbie Keane is a proper player; a great professional and infectious character", said Redknapp. He would be reuniting with Harry Redknapp, the man who gave him some of the best years of his career when they were both at Tottenham and playing under him could see him reignite the form that saw him become a regular in the England team. You can't beat a bit of quality. Cole also has 107 England caps to his name. Keane was reported to be on about £56,000-a-week when he was with LA Galaxy - who were also his last club.

The former Spurs striker may not have played competitive football since November but there's little risk in offering him a short-term contract and could yet prove a great signing considering his phenomenal goalscoring record.

The report indicates that Keane's move is further advanced and more likely than any approach for Cole, possibly due to Keane's experience working with veteran manager Redknapp, but the Blues hope that the Republic of Irishman can convince Cole to join him in making the move back across the Atlantic.

Keane enjoyed his five year tenure in Los Angeles, scoring 83 goals for the American side.
