The shark attack is the first reported at Haulover Beach, nine miles north of Miami Beach, officials said.

Footage shows two men trying to reel in the tiger shark that was hooked on a fishing line close to the shore in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina.

The man was bitten in both legs by the shark, but he was conscious and able to get out of the water.

One beachgoer, who recorded the whole thing on his cell phone, says lifeguards immediately started blowing their whistles to try and get swimmers out of the water once they spotted the shark.

According to WWAY, when the fisherman was attempting to pull the shark towards the shore, is when the creature bit him.

"Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Ocean Rescue lifeguards became aware of the shark lurking in the water", Miami-Dade Fire Rescue spokeswoman Erika Benitez said.

The man was taken to the nearby Aventura Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. "This is the first shark attack in Miami-Dade County that I've been aware of working 20 years in ocean rescue".

"It's extremely rare", Lt. Matthew Sparling said.
