Chelsea set to appease fans with £34m signing today

Reports appearing in the Express (via Sky Sports) indicate that Antonio Rudiger's agent has arrived in London to finalise the mooted £34 million deal for the highly-rated German defender. It is thought the player will take a medical in Los Angeles this week, with the transfer figure potentially rising to £34m.

Once completed, Rudiger will then reportedly pen a five-year deal with Roma receiving £34m for a player they only signed for a reported £7.65m from VfB Stuttgart last summer after initially joining them on a season-long loan.

He helped lead the club to a second-placed finish behind champions Juventus last season and he's now a regular in the German squad so I think Rudiger will prove to be an excellent signing for Chelsea.

Even if this transfer is completed, Chelsea, and the rest of the big Premier League teams, are sure to look to get a lot more business done before the new season starts again.

One can only imagine that Antonio Conte is in the hunt for defensive reinforcements this summer, with both Nathan Ake and John Terry departing to AFC Bournemouth and Aston Villa respectively without being replaced.

Antonio Conte's Chelsea will open the defence of their domestic league title against Burnley at Stamford Bridge on August 12.

Chelsea are thought to have made a late bid to re-sign the Belgium global, but he already had his heart set on a move to Old Trafford.
