The statement said his current condition is listed as "serious".

U.S. Representative Steve Scalise, shot and wounded during a baseball practice last month, developed an infection and was readmitted to an intensive care unit, MedStar Washington Hospital Center said on Wednesday.

Those comments were made prior to Scalise's change in condition.

Despite being released not long ago, Congressman Scalise has been readmitted to the hospital. Capitol Police were armed and shot the attacker, James Hodgkinson, who died at the hospital from his wounds. Hodkinson's social media profiles contained anti-Republican and anti-President Donald Trump sentiment.

After the shooting, the Congressional Baseball Game had record ticket sales and raised over $1.5 million for charity.

The hospital said the Metairie congressman was moved back into ICU because of "new concerns for infection".

In the meantime, please keep Rep. Scalise and his family in your prayers.
