Just a few days after the new Las Vegas team selected Marc Methot in the National Hockey League expansion draft, the Golden Knights traded the veteran defenseman to the Dallas Stars on Monday. The deal comes less than a week since the Golden Knights took Methot in the expansion draft from the Ottawa Senators.

The Golden Knights, who selected Methot in the NHL Expansion Draft, received goalie prospect Dylan Ferguson and a second-round pick at the 2020 NHL Draft for the defenseman. He finished the year with just 12 assists.

The Stars had several things in the works over Draft weekend that were still on the table as they left Chicago and may have bought out Niemi to open up space to hunt for another veteran defenseman.

But back to Methot, he has been an absolute workhorse for the Senators usually playing on the top line next to Erik Karlsson as a shutdown defenseman.

"We are thrilled to have the opportunity to acquire a player of Marc's caliber", Nill said. He finished the year with the Senators going plus-13 while he was patrolling the ice. Ottawa acquired him in a 2012 trade for Nick Foligno. The 30-year-old had career bests with 11 goals, 18 assists and 29 points last season. He has skated in 38 Stanley Cup Playoff games in his career, recording nine points (3-6=9). The native of Lantzville, B.C. was selected in the seventh round (194th overall) of the 2017 NHL Draft.
