Well, we've now got a few more details on the vibe of the Anthem gameplay, straight from the source that is BioWare General Manager, Aaryn Flynn.

It's more "science fantasy", like Star Wars.

Anthem is a game where players will "see a lot of incredible things happening, but [BioWare doesn't] worry too much about why they're happening, or how they're happening". The title clearly draws inspiration from the studio's most successful IP, Mass Effect, but it has its own unique atmosphere and storyline. Anthem is a social game where you and your friends go on quests and journeys. But I'm honestly so proud of them for having the courage and the fortitude to keep this idea going and building it and improving it.

Ever since Bioware announced Anthem at E3 this year, people have been talking about it. Dylan/Anthem is what Hudson changed gears and began leading after the close of Mass Effect 3, meaning his team had access to EA's substantial coffers, alongside learning all the possible lessons from both Dragon Age: Inquisition and Mass Effect Andromeda. The next project from Bioware, Anthem has actually been in development since 2012, existing in codename form only until it was ready to be unveiled to the masses.

While BioWare has not outright expressed its intent to challenge Bungie's Destiny in terms of sci-fi co-op action, quotes like these suggest that the developer is, at the very least, borrowing from its competitor's lead.

Set in a vast post-apocalyptic, open world filled with sprawling lush jungles and massive monsters, Anthem features a human colony within a walled city on an alien planet.
