Turkey, most Muslim countries start Eid al-Fitr on Sunday

In a press conference, Indonesian Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin said that all of the six sworn observers reached the same conclusion and the Indonesians would perform the Eid prayers on Sunday June 25, 2017.

The Ashanti regional director of the Islamic Education Unit, Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar Amankwah, speaking to Class News' regional correspondent, Hafiz Tijani, warned that Islamic schools would not meet the academic calendar if pupils and students from such schools exhibit similar attitude in this year's Eid al-Fitr.

Just like any Muslim country, people in the United States wake up early and perform Namaz e Eid either at an outdoor prayer ground or a mosque, in their finest clothes, specially designed (or prepared) for the occasion.

The beauty of Islam is that even on this happy-go-busy day, Muslims do not forget their poor brothers and distribute alms (Fitrah) among them.

The committee will announce the date of Eid-ul-Fitr after reviewing information on the sighting of the Shawwal moon.

Abubakar said that the new moon was sighted in parts of Kaduna, Katsina, Borno, Adamawa and Sokoto States.

This means the private sector will enjoy a three day working week this week, with two days paid holidays for Eid-Al Fitr.

Remember, these dates are only estimates, subject to moon sightings.
