China asks Pakistan and Afghanistan to meet halfway to improve ties

On China-Pakistan ties, Wang said that Islamabad is Beijing's all-weather strategic cooperative partner and the relationship is a unique one.

Earlier, Shahbaz warmly welcomed Yi at Noor Khan Airbase as he reached Pakistan on a two-day visit. Instead, he stated, that the new group in Afghanistan had been floated by the Pakistan intelligence service. Besides its bilateral engagement with both Islamabad and Kabul, it is part of a number of global processes on Afghanistan.

MEP Petras Austrevicius informed the audience that there was no difference of opinion within the European Union Council on assisting Afghanistan, whether financially or technically, with its reconciliation process.

Rabbani meanwhile said that in order to have peace and stability in Afghanistan, regional cooperation and consensus was needed.

China has formally initiated a mediation bid to ease Afghanistan's tensions with Pakistan and to encourage the two uneasy neighbors to jointly work for countering terrorism and promoting regional peace.

It is the 12th round of defense and security talks held by China and Pakistan, according to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media arm of the Pakistan Armed Forces. "Relations with Pakistan could be improved if action is taken against the terrorist groups", the Afghan leader said further.

It has promised $57 billion in investment in projects along a China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, part of its ambitious Belt and Road plan linking China with the Middle East and Europe. Fang noted that "bilateral military relations between the two countries have maintained a healthy and stable development momentum".

In Pakistan, Wang "held wide-ranging discussions" on bilateral relations, regional security and the situation in Afghanistan, the Pakistani foreign ministry said in a tweet.

The foreign minister paid tributes to Pakistan for the sacrifices made to eliminate terrorism and China was working closely with Pakistan for development and peace, adding that CPEC would ensure peace and prosperity in the region.

Sartaj Aziz thanked China for its constructive proposals for promoting peace and harmony in the region. He said Pakistan values Chinese positive role for sustainable peace and stability in Afghanistan, Radio Pakistan reported.

Geng Shuang hoped that the disputes between India and Pakistan will be resolved properly through consultations and negotiations.

The advisor said Pakistan has made political and diplomatic efforts on the issue and is willing to activate relevant dialogue mechanisms and channels.
