Warmbier's father, Fred, held a press conference on the issue on Thursday.

Asked later if he believes the past administration could have done more, Fred Warmbier replied, "I think the results speak for themselves".

Doctors have not found any evidence to support North Korea's assertions that a now comatose American college student came down with a rare case of food poisoning.

Fred Warmbier said that he does not know why North Korea released his son but that the country does not do anything out of "the kindness of their hearts".

Warmbier was released from a North Korean prison and returned home to suburban Cincinnati on Tuesday in a coma.

"We did what we could, we tried to stay low, we were advised that it was important that you don't upset the North Koreans", Warmbier said. He says efforts to get Warmbier home never ceased.

The doctors said he does not give consistent responses and has not engaged in any purposeful movements or behavior.

On Thursday, the State Department said that U.S. diplomat Joseph Yun, who negotiated Mr Warmbier's release, had also met with three other USA citizens being held in North Korea.

Ohio Senator Rob Portman described the North Korean Government's handling of Mr Warmbier as "abhorrent" in an interview with Fox News. "And no excuse for the way they've treated so many others", he said.

Spokeswoman Heather Nauert (NOW'-ert) says the US hopes the other Americans will be able to return home soon.

Doctors said his exam showed a 'spastic quadriparesis, ' this means he has "profound weakness in contraction of the muscles in his arms and legs".

He returned home to OH on Tuesday in a coma after being "brutalized and terrorized by the pariah regime", his family said in a statement.

The university student held by North Korea for 17 months has suffered a "severe" neurological injury brought on by being "brutalized" by the rogue regime according to his father.

Otto Warmbier was released after Secretary of State Rex Tillerson negotiated for his return, at the direction of President Donald Trump, the administration said.

An MRI showed that Warmbier sustained "extensive loss of brain tissue in all regions of the brain", Dr. Kanter said. "My objective is to go over there and try to see if I can keep bringing sports to North Korea".

White says Warmbier was a master at defusing tense situations with his humor.

A former teacher of Otto also spoke, stating that Otto had "thrived" in high school. "But I did take the call and it was gracious and it felt good, and I thank him for that".

Otto Warmbier is in stable condition after arriving at the University of Cincinnati Medical Centre two days ago. Doctors planned an update later Thursday.

"We relied on this false premise that they would treat Otto fairly and let him go", he said.

An American college student who was released from a North Korean prison is finally home but in a coma and undergoing treatment at an OH hospital. "On behalf of the medical staff, nurses, and associates of the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, I can say it is our privilege to care for their son and brother".
