Several people have been hurt, some critically, after a deck collapsed near a church camp south of Lakeside.

Authorities say 14 people were taken or drove themselves to a hospital after the second-story deck of a Montana lodge collapsed during a memorial event for a firefighter.

At least six were airlifted to hospitals, local Flathead Beacon reported.

North Valley Hospital, Kalispell Regional Medical Center and Missoula hospitals were treating the victims, according to Lakeside/Somers Fire Chief Tom Havens.

"There were a significant number of orthopedic and neurological injuries that required immediate surgery". Special areas were established for patients' families to gather and get information about their loved ones.

Somers' Fire Department said the second story deck collapsed around 4 p.m. and fell a total distance of 15 to 20 feet.

The incident occurred at a residence on Presbyterian Camp Road, located between Lakeside and Rollins on the shore of Flathead Lake.

Witnesses to the collapse told ABC FOX Montana one side of the deck was spongy, and that once it collapsed it was a domino effect.

On its website, Glacier Camp wrote, "This afternoon, we had a major accident at camp". We are grateful to all of the EMTs/paramedics, fire departments and first responders who came to our aid. "We ask for your prayers for all involved".
