Blood centersto celebrate World Blood Donor Day on Wednesday

Governor P Sathasivam will inaugurate the World Blood Donor Day celebrations organised by Terumo Penpol in association with All Kerala Donors Society at Vylopilly Samskrithi Bhavan here on June 14 at 10.00 am.

The campaign underlines the role every single person can play in helping others during emergency situations by giving blood.

This year, due to the increased support from voluntary donors in Mandeville, Manchester, the National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) will be centering its blood drive at the Golf View Hotel in the parish. In high-income countries, the most frequently transfused patient group is 65 years of age, accounting for up to 76 per cent of all transfusions.

This year's campaign focuses on blood donation in emergencies such as natural disasters, including earthquakes, floods, storms and man-made disasters.

People in Springfield will have a chance to donate blood on Wednesday.

The national blood donation drive encouraged more than 2000 Australians to become first-time donors previous year. At the time of the donating, the pulse rate must be around 50 to 100 per minute without any irregularities, the body temperature should be normal and oral temperature should not exceed 37.5 degree Celsius. Ipswich Blood Donor Centre needs to collect 80 red cell donations and 140 plasma donations every week.
