He hinted that there are no tapes of their conversations, contrary to a suggestion in a tweet he issued shortly after firing Comey.

Comey said Thursday the president's tweet that said Comey "better hope that there are no "tapes" of their conversations had compelled him to share a memo he wrote.

The outcome could have significant repercussions for Trump's 139-day-old presidency as special counsel Robert Mueller and multiple congressional committees investigate whether Trump's campaign team colluded with Russian Federation during the 2016 presidential election.

Trump has continuously denied allegations that he had asked Comey to drop the investigation into former National Security Adviser (NSA) Michael Flynn's alleged ties with Russian Federation.

Mr Trump also seized on Mr Comey's revelation that he had directed a friend to release memos documenting his conversations with the president to a reporter.

President Donald Trump said Friday he is willing to testify under oath about his interactions with former FBI Director James Comey and accused the latter of being untruthful during his testimony in Capitol Hill on Thursday.

Trump's answer to Boyer's question happily accepted the he-said, he-said premise.

"I hardly know the man".

Trump subsequently gave a non-answer to questions about possible tapes of his conversations with the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director.

"It was inaccurate." Despite the fact that Comey was "concerned" and felt it was "inaccurate", he did as Lynch asked, which doesn't exactly speak well of his honesty or impartiality.

"Should I take one of the killer networks that treat me so badly as fake news-should I do that?" PRESIDENT TRUMP: Well, I didn't say that. He said Trump told him he had "hope" that the then-director would "let Flynn go", and that he took the suggestion as a "direction". That's another thing he said. Still, he maintained he had never asked Comey for a pledge of allegiance.

"I think he abused power", said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. He did say, under oath, that you told him to let the Flynn - you said you hoped the Flynn investigation he could let -PRESIDENT TRUMP: I didn't say that. I hardly know the man, it doesn't make sense'.

In a letter seen by Reuters, Sessions told Senator Richard Shelby, chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies, that the intelligence committee is the "most appropriate" place to address matters that came up during Comey's hearing on Thursday.

Trump and his personal attorney have corroborated some of Comey recollections, but disputed that account.

Two officials familiar with Trump's legal strategy said his lawyers plan to file a complaint about Comey's leak with the Inspector General's office at the Department of Justice, and with the Senate Judiciary and Intelligence committees.

Dershowitz said it's the president's prerogative to stop the FBI's various investigations.

One key reason Trump won the presidency is, again, why he's faring as well as he is when positioned against Comey: partisanship. And, "You're going to be very disappointed when you hear the answer".

"Yes, I was on Judiciary Cmte that impeached Clinton/sent him for trial in the Senate for matters less serious than the ones before us now", Inglis tweeted Friday.
