Nine killed as Latur-bound bus overturns in Maharashtra's Beed district

While nine people were killed on the spot, those injured have been admitted to Ahmednagar District Civil Hospital, where the condition of few are said to be serious.

"The bus was travelling from Mumbai to Latur". After receiving information, the police officials rushed to the spot and rescue operation is on. According to reports, the bus was travelling to Latur when it overturned in Beed district in the early hours of Sunday morning. The police are looking at all the angles to figure out what really caused it.

The vehicle carrying pilgrims from Mehandipur Balaji temple lost control and fell into the Makera canal, SP (rural) Aditya Shukla was quoted as saying by PTI. "The driver has anyway been booked for rash and negligent driving", another police official said.

Officials said it will be probed if the driver was inebriated or fell asleep at the wheel.

The accident occurred at the Mathura-Jajampatti road.
