The President's son said the family was "vindicated" after the Comey testimony as what he said was "basically ridiculous" and that Mr Comey had never been asked to drop the Russian Federation investigation.

In a letter to the U-T ("Comey has cleared Trump of collusion", June 9), the writer cited the U-T's New York Times article "Comey: Trump tried to influence probe" (June 8) as slanderous.

He further denied ever asking Comey for his "loyalty", contradicting Comey's detailed allegations in his sworn testimony.

Trump, speaking alongside Romanian President Klaus Iohannis in the Rose Garden, also said he was "100%" willing to testify under oath to dispute claims Comey made before the Senate committee.

After Comey was sacked, he asked his trusted friend to share one of his memoranda with the New York Times so the government may be pushed to assign a special counsel to investigate the Trump campaign-Russia connection.

Trump was the first person to suggest that there may be recordings of his conversations with Comey after tweeting that Comey should be afraid of the possible recordings being released. "I'll tell you about that maybe sometime in the near future", Trump said.

"Oh you're going to be very disappointed when you hear the answer, don't worry", he added, . The committee is seeking the materials by June 23.

Comey also said that he believed the president had fired him because of the Russian Federation probe, told "lies" about his record at the bureau and sought to redirect the probe away from former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

But after Trump fired Comey in May, the president tweeted: "Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!"

"I would be glad to tell him exactly what I just told you", Trump told a reporter.

"I hardly know the man", Trump said.

He also accused Qatar, a key US military partner, of funding terrorism "at a very high level", and said solving the problem in the tiny Persian Gulf nation could be "the beginning of the end of terrorism".

Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirate (UAE) and Egypt have cut off diplomatic relations with Qatar, accusing it of supporting terrorism.

The top US diplomat also called on Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt to ease the blockade against Qatar. Comey faces legal repercussions for lying - and it's not really clear why he would.

Comey, who was sacked by Trump last month, said he did so in hopes that the memos, which documented what the former director felt was inappropriate contact by the president amid the ongoing investigation, would prompt the Justice Department to appoint a special counsel to take over the probe. Michael Conaway, a Texas Republican, and Adam Schiff, a California Democrat, sent a request Friday directly to Comey for copies of his memos.

"WOW, Comey is a leaker!" Mr Trump wrote at 6.10am.

Earlier Friday, Trump said via Twitter that Comey's testimony Thursday before the Senate Committee on Intelligence supported his statements. Karl wanted to know whether Trump agreed with Comey's account of their conversation.

Indeed, Comey was but one of President Obama's operatives remaining in government for the sole objective of first, preventing Clinton's election, then undermining President Trump and his administration - leading toward Trump's impeachment - clearly, all President Obama's men and women. "And there'd be nothing wrong with it if I did say that, according to everybody that I read today, but I did not say that".
