Mayors from across the country and up and down the Mississippi River (including Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland) vowed to keep working toward a clean future despite President Donald Trump's removal of the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement.

"As the Commonwealth reiterates its commitment to exceed the emission reduction targets of the Paris Climate Agreement, today we join the US Climate Alliance to expand our efforts while partnering with other states to combat climate change", Baker stated on Friday.

The governors of California, New York and Washington are also forming a pact to help reduce emission in their states to help meet the Paris agreement.

Speaking at the White House Thursday afternoon, Trump said he will cease implementation of the 2015 Paris Agreement, which called for the USA to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions.

During his Rose Garden speech, Trump announced that he is pulling the US out of the worldwide agreement but added that he is open to a new agreement that is better for the interests of Americans.

Despite the pressure, Trump made the right decision, because the Paris accord was a bad deal for the U.S. "Without action, the continued effects of climate change will lead to increased instances of natural disasters, severe drought and starvation across the globe that could result in humanitarian crises and war", Cohen said in a statement. He said he planned to negotiate a better deal on climate change with other countries.

"Unfortunately, the first to suffer from this injudicious decision is the American people", the group, an alliance of climate activists, said.

Scientists blame manmade climate change for rising seas and increasing extreme weather.

Big business, including many seeking to profit from climate-change regulations, also opposed the exit from the Paris accord.

"I was elected to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris", he said. "On the other hand, climate action is unstoppable", Guterres told the media in St Petersburg, Russia, where he is participating in the St Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Seven Social Democratic ministers in her coalition government said the United States "is harming itself, we Europeans and all the people of the world".

A top atmospheric scientist at the U.N.'s weather agency said Friday that the "worst-case scenario" caused by the planned USA pullout from the Paris climate deal would be a further 0.3-degree Celsius (0.5 Fahrenheit) rise in global temperatures by 2100.

Germany's DIHK Chambers of Commerce and VDMA engineering industry group warned that USA companies could gain short-term advantages by Trump's decision.

The truth is that Trump's actions conflict with the goals and spirit of the nonbinding commitment Obama made to world leaders, and remaining in the Paris accord for public relations purposes would be disingenuous.

Scientists say every fraction of a degree change in average temperatures can lead to noticeable swings in local weather patterns, though exact consequences are hard to predict.
