"I just have to keep on working, the good results are going to come", Montero said after surrendering a walk-off homer to Chris Herrmann in the Mets' 5-4 loss at Chase Field. Rene Rivera's single that drove in the first run of the game in the second inning wound up being the Mets' only hit against Godley in his six-and-two-thirds innings. Montero has given up seven earned runs in his last five appearances.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Diamondbacks are -125 money line favorites versus the Mets, who have odds of +105 to pull off the upset in Arizona.

He got help from relievers Andrew Chafin, Archie Bradley and Fernando Rodney, who combined to hold NY hitless the rest of the way.

Corbin is entering his fifth career start against the Mets.

The D-backs are now 6-1 in their last seven games against NY. "I will not let that happen here".

"It's what we're going through right now", manager Terry Collins said. "We're just going to have to play good baseball while A.J.'s gone". "I will not let this team get down".

That left Montero, who took the mound with a 9.00 ERA, and precious little evidence this season to believe he could pitch a scoreless inning Within minutes, it was over, with the Diamondbacks mobbing the field and the Mets shuffling to their charter back to NY for a desperately needed off day. Descalso followed with a pinch-hit shot off Josh Edgin. He walked one and struck out six. "It's something you dream about when you're a little kid, whenever I'm 6 years old, playing out in the cul-de-sac, hitting tennis balls".

As a catcher, Herrmann is no fan of extra innings.

"Seeing C.O. (Owings) stop right there and knowing there was two outs, you have to take at least some bit of a chance to try to get to home", Goldschmidt said.

Herrmman's teammates doused him with a Gatoraid container of ice and water at the plate.

"I'm close to where I want to be", he said.

With the win, Arizona jumps to 23-18 on the year - and an impressive 17-8 at home.

And they had not finished winless on a road trip of at last six games since September 1999. Godley walked five - one intentionally - and struck out seven, giving up only a run in a no-decision.

Will the series finale between the Mets and Diamondbacks be high-scoring at 3:40PM ET?

The point of concern for the Mets comes back to relief pitching.

"Probably the best I've felt in two years", said Harvey, who studied video of his performances in 2013 and 2015 and a recent bullpen session.

Collins said he "saw some bright things in Matt Harvey today". Robert Gsellman gave up a game-tying RBI double to Yasmany Tomas, before Addison Reed worked a scoreless couple of innings in the ninth and tenth.

Also for the Diamondbacks, Jake Lamb hit a two-run homer and drew two walks.
