Trump in Mideast condemns 'evil losers' behind Manchester attack

Wrapping up the second stop of his five country global swing since becoming Commander in Chief, President Donald Trump is now on his way to Rome.

"The most depressing part of the performance was the vilification of Iran as the source of all terror and evil in the region, a tune which was replayed immediately upon arrival in Israel with the pledge that Tehran will never have a nuke", Giraldi said. He added that in his meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas it was clear that "the Palestinians are ready to reach for peace", and that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "wants peace".

"He's looking for a kind of outside-in approach, first peace between Israel and Sunni Arab states, who have a common enemy in Iran, and that regional peace leading to Israeli-Palestinian peace".

The Hamas spokesperson said Trump's statement was "racist in the extreme, and establishes the pillars of a new Israeli apartheid regime, and encourages hatred of the Palestinian people".

"I think it's a choice to not create political difficulties for Netanyahu early in this process because of the strong opinions against a two-state solution in his cabinet", said former US ambassador to Israel Daniel Shapiro, who met recently with Trump's advisers. He said that if Christians, Muslims and Jews join forces, "peace in this world is possible, including peace between Israel and the Palestinians". If negotiations were to resume, they needed to be about the core issues, not talks about talks, he said.

While it was Israel that Trump lavished with praise, in the end neither side got all it wanted. "Once the ceremonies and the photo ops and the speeches are gone, we'll have to see whether this visit has really marked the start of a new process of some kind".

Trump's Middle East envoy Jason Greenblatt is reportedly returning to Israel on Thursday for talks in Jerusalem and Ramallah to follow-up the U.S. president's historic two-day visit in Israel. I am telling you - that's what I do - they are ready to reach for peace. He has already visited Saudi Arabia and Israel.

Imprisoned Palestinian Liberation Organisation commander Marwan Barghouti used the trip to urge the US President to save thousands of Palestinian prisoners who have been on hunger strike for 37 days. Do they have any real basis to claim East Jerusalem as the Palestinians' capital?

During an appearance with Abbas in Bethlehem, Trump spoke about the Monday-night suicide bombing at a concert by pop star Ariana Grande at Manchester Arena in England. "He did not weigh in Israeli settlements, the status of Jerusalem or even whether the USA would continue to insist on a two-state solution giving the Palestinians sovereign territory".

Trump's lack of experience of the history, military conflicts, politics and societies of the Middle East had made him easy to manipulate, Giraldi cautioned.
