FBI probes Kushner-Russia meetings; more documents sought

Citing three current and former American officials, the Times said U.S. intelligence officials collected information last summer showing Russians zeroed in on Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and Mr Flynn, a former head of USA military intelligence who was a key Trump campaign adviser.

As valuable as Gen. Flynn is to our counterintelligence investigation, we don't believe it's our place to offer him immunity.

"I don't feel it's appropriate to characterize discussions and conversations with the president", said Coats, a former Republican senator from IN, at a Senate Armed Services Committee worldwide threats hearing. Both of the firms are in Alexandria, Virginia, outside Washington.

On Wednesday morning, the top Democrat on the committee said it would subpoena Flynn in its probe into alleged Russian meddling in the presidential election after he declined to appear before the panel.

A contempt-of-Congress conviction can result in a one-year prison term.

"We are going to be entertaining the same options in terms of our subpoenas, which I hope will go out shortly, to obtain these documents", Schiff said. "That is not our preference today".

Burr said the committee was still interested in taking Flynn's testimony.

"We had a fantastic meeting", the president said afterward. "If the Russians want to get into the (Democratic National Committee) again they will be able to get in, or the RNC or just about any other private institution and a lot of public ones".

When Trump departed, he told the pope: "Thank you, I won't forget what you said".

A day earlier, former CIA director John Brennan told a House committee that he had seen intelligence that "revealed contacts and interactions" between Russian officials and Americans "involved" in the Trump campaign.

Mr Trump has refused to fully accept the unanimous conclusion of USA intelligence agencies that Russian Federation stole thousands of sensitive e-mails, orchestrated online dumps of damaging information and employed fake news and other means to upend last year's race.

Former CIA Director John Brennan said Tuesday he personally warned Russia last summer against interfering in the US presidential campaign, telling the Russians that continued meddling would backfire and prevent and warming of relations after the election.

The Justice Department has said Sessions had more than 25 conversations with foreign ambassadors past year.

Flynn has expressed a willingness to testify in exchange for immunity, but Schiff said there was little chance the House committee would agree to that.

He said the two officials were "sufficiently concerned that it was an extraordinary thing that they took care to write it down, but not sufficiently concerned that they reported it".
