Solomona doubtful for England tour

The setback will be a great disappointment to Solomona, who was undoubtedly desperate to impress Jones enough to stake a claim for a regular place in the starting XV (particularly with so many regulars away on tour with the Lions), and would nearly certainly have seen plenty of match time in among the 31-man squad for the tests against the Pumas.

Solomona, who has scored 11 tries in 15 matches for Premiership side Sale Sharks since December, received his first England call-up when Jones announced his squad in April.

"Denny Solomona has a mid-foot strain", said England boss Jones.

"He's going to see a specialist tomorrow and we'll know definitely then". We believe it will be pretty doubtful he goes on tour.

The Sale wing was yesterday left out of the squad to face the Barbarians on Sunday which included the recalled Richard Wigglesworth and Eddie Jones is pessimistic of his chances of boarding the plane for South America next week.

The 33-year-old scrum-half has been selected by Eddie Jones for the first time, and will challenge for a place in Sunday's non-cap worldwide against the Barbarians at Twickenham.

Part of a Saracens squad that has won the last two European Champions Cup finals, Wigglesorth has been selected in spite of Jones calling up uncapped New Zealand-born halfback Willi Heinz for an England training camp in Brighton last week.

Saracens' 18-16 Premiership semi-final defeat at Exeter on Saturday has freed Wigglesworth up for the England call, while stars from the Chiefs, Wasps and Northampton remain unavailable to face the Barbarians due to club duty.

Meanwhile, Jones has handed a surprise callup to 33-year-old Saracens halfback Richard Wigglesworth for the Barbarians game. "He's always been a good player; I think he's been playing a little bit better".

Jones remained nonplussed at the notion of any player retiring from global rugby, however, in reacting to Wigglesworth's continued England ambitions.

"He's a good player, I want to have a look at him". I won't name him but you can work it out for yourself. I just think that's normal mate.

The 23-year-old has been omitted from the England squad to play the Barbarians next Monday (NZ Time).

"Singleton looks like he likes his English breakfast too much, young Singleton!"

"They both have a lot of work to do", said Jones.

"Both have a good deal of potential and I am excited about working with them".
