During a trial in Tulsa, Betty Shelby, 43, said she had shot Terence Crutcher, 40, because she feared he was reaching for a gun in his auto during a routine traffic matter last September. Shelby's attorney, Shannon McMurray, told The Associated Press Thursday that her client is unsure she'd even want to come back.

The investigator wrote that Shelby, "reacted unreasonably by escalating the situation from a confrontation with Mr. Crutcher, who was not responding to verbal commands and was walking away from her with his hands up, becoming emotionally involved to the point that she over reacted". Her defense attorney said the fact PCP was found in Crutcher's system backed up her decision to treat him as a threat.

Crutcher ignored orders from Shelby and another officer on the scene, Tyler Turnbough, according to Shelby's testimony.

The verbal exchange between officers as well as the video of the shooting itself incited outrage.

Some of the protesters moved to Denver Street at about 11:30pm where they attempted to stop traffic.

Crutcher alternated between putting his hands in his pocket and putting them in the air, she said. Shelby was charged with first-degree manslaughter in the fatal shooting of Terence Crutcher, an unarmed black man. Shelby was found not guilty.

Closing arguments are scheduled for Wednesday in the manslaughter trial of a white Oklahoma police officer who fatally shot an unarmed black man a year ago.

Crutcher's sister, Tiffany Crutcher, told reporters the verdict was a "tough pill" to swallow.

Shelby's lawyer, Scott Wood, however, claimed Crutcher refused to answer Shelby's questions about his SUV, walked towards the back of the police auto with his hands up, and then put his hands back in his pockets.

As soon as the judge finished reading the verdict, at least five jurors started crying.

Shelby was seen running from the courthouse. "That big bad dude was a father, that big bad dude was a son, that big bad dude was enrolled at Tulsa Community College just wanting to make us all proud, that big bad dude loved God, that big bad dude was in church singing with all of his flaws every week".

Jordan said TPD is now analyzing the status of Betty Shelby's employment. Shelby, 43, shot and killed Crutcher, 40, with a single shot.

But Bynum wasnt specific enough with details of how he would heal Tulsas racial wounds, and words will ring hollow without measurable change, Crutchers family and supporters said. "I've been harassed all night long by the citizens of Tulsa", she said. Crutcher can be seen slowly walking from the edge of a street north of Tulsa toward his vehicle, which police said had been reported abandoned at about 8:36 pm local time and left running in the middle of the road. It does not change our recognition of the racial disparities that have afflicted Tulsa historically.
