"I wish fans an enjoyable summer!".

The Magpies clinched the Sky Bet Championship title on Sunday with a 3-0 victory over Barnsley as Benitez successfully led the club back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Shepherd is now expecting Benitez to be busy in the transfer market, and reckons he will look to bring in players with vast Premier League experience.

Sheffield Wednesday may have taken six points off Newcastle United this season, but Magpies' fans aren't holding it against them.

And Newcastle owner Ashley confirmed the Spaniard will be allowed to spend the money the club has earned from promotion.

Rafa Benitez has agreed to continue as Newcastle United manager after positive talks with owner Mike Ashley.

More than £50m was spent on new players last summer as Newcastle assembled one of the most expensive squads in Championship history, although nearly £70m was recouped from player sales.

Benitez was given full control of player recruitment last summer after agreeing to stay on following Newcastle's relegation.

United are set to benefit from the Premier League's multi-billion pound TV deal.

According to Ashley, Benitez will "receive every last penny the club generates through promotion, player sales & other means".

Lazaar, 25, moved to St. James' Park from Serie A outfit Palermo in the summer but has been forced to watch from the sidelines for the majority of the season under manager Benitez.

The club statement made no mention of the future role of chief scout Graham Carr.

While Newcastle and Brighton & Hove Albion have thus far gained promotion to the Premier League, Sunderland and Middlesbrough will fill their void in the Championship.
