Shaq also believes Earth is flat

In what was a preposterous statement, Kyrie Irving drew a ton of buzz during the NBA's All-Star weekend in claiming that the Earth was flat.

Shaq charged to the defense of Irving, saying: 'It's true. "The Earth is flat". Yes, it is. Listen, there are three ways to manipulate the mind - what you read, what you see and what you hear.

O'Neal actually used the fact that Christopher Columbus did not actually discover America as evidence and even cited some of his nationwide travels in a vehicle. So, listen, I drive from coast to coast, and this shit is flat to me. I do not go up and down at a 360-degree angle, and all that stuff about gravity, have you looked outside Atlanta lately and seen all these buildings? Irving's original claim included "Can you really think of us rotating around the sun, and all planets align, rotating in specific dates, being perpendicular with what's going on with these "planets" and stuff like this?" Jefferson then wore a hilarious "Flat World Champions" shirt, but no one could tell if he was supporting his teammate or trolling him. What I've been taught is that the Earth is round.

'Satellite imagery could be drawn and made up, ' he said.

'I'm just saying when I drive from Florida to NY; flat. NY to Seattle; flat. His proof: when he drives between Florida and California, "it's flat to me".

'Matter of fact, it's a square.

On his latest podcast, Shaq was asked what he thinks about Kyrie Irving's recent comments saying the Earth is flat.

Irving was responding to a question from Frye about whether or not he believes in aliens.

There is a fundamental point to all of this, Irving said: "It's OK to have your own thoughts and be able to function and be able to formulate your own thoughts and opinions and still be able to convey them to other people". It's right in front of our faces.

Shaq starts with some Howard Zinn what-even-is-the-truth-man? revisionism but immediately goes off the rails.

Now, we can count Shaquille O'Neal among them. Whatever that says about the state of the world, at least it shows a level of intellectual curiosity and contemplative thought from National Basketball Association players have that has been absent in years past.
