To be sure, Trump's unrestrained contempt for major news organizations isn't exactly new, but his campaign to delegitimize the media as president is becoming increasingly formalized. For critics and detractors, he was volatile, erratic, and nearly unhinged. "They want people to fall in line".

Yesterday, we had the opportunity to see President Trump in full action against the press.

Aside from the obvious conflict of having people pay $200,000 fees to speak with the president, this reality leads to unseemly incidents like this one. The press, honestly, is out of control. CNN Worldwide's president, Jeff Zucker, happened to be making at public statement at the same time to address whether Trump's portrayal of the news network is actually impacting CNN's credibility.

The WSJ's report was published a day after one of the few black Republicans in the Trump administration was sacked.

Mr. Trump opened his remarks by mounting a blistering attack on the media for underplaying his achievements after he "inherited a mess at home and abroad".

Comparing the first seven weeks of 2017 to the same period a year ago, which included the Iowa Caucus and several primaries, cable news viewership is up 36% and 39% in the core 25-to-54 demo, Mr. Zucker said.

Trump said the leaks from the intelligence community in the past week involve "highly-classified information", while the Wikileaks emails involved "John Podesta saying bad things about the boss". I was given that information.

Reaction inside the Capitol to President Donald Trump's 75-minute press conference ranged from stunned to bemused - as the people weighing his sweeping agenda pondered how to deal with a leader who promised that he was "not ranting and raving".

Trump's first announcement and ostensibly the reason for the hastily organized press conference was that Alexander Acosta, a former USA attorney and former member of the National Labor Relations Board, would be his nominee for Secretary of Labor, to replace his first nominee, Andy Puzder, who withdrew on Wednesday. "You have a lower approval rating than Congress".

In the first seven weeks of 2017, CNN's ratings are up 36% over the same period last year and 51% in the 25- to 54-year-old age group that advertisers seek most when they buy news programming. It's a silly fight, but one too many in the media can't help but get involved in because they (understandably) take Trump's attacks personally.

Trump showed no love for the mainstream media. "Are they friends of yours?" "I don't know. But they don't believe you". The White House has been criticized in the United States and worldwide for its handling of a number of issues, including an executive order banning all refugees as well as travelers into the U.S. from seven majority-Muslim countries. "We got a bad decision".

The conference follows the controversial resignation of Trump's national secretary adviser earlier this week.
