Dancing On Ice is reportedly set to introduce its first ever same-sex pairing for 2020.

A source told Pretty 52 that this year, celeb contestant Ian "H" Watkins from Steps will be dancing with Matt Evers after personally requesting a male partner.

Watkins, 43, will be joined on Dancing On Ice by celebrities including model Caprice Bourret, Love Island's Maura Higgins and TV presenters Trisha Goddard and Michael Barrymore.

They continued: 'Dancing on Ice had been totally supportive of a same-intercourse partnership and as such this year H will be paired with Matt Evers'.

Fans of rival show Strictly Come Dancing have also been calling for the show to allow same-sex partnerships for years.

They have previously featured same-sex pairings between professional dancers in group numbers.

Evers was partnered with The Only Way Is Essex star Gemma Collins on this year's show.

Act, who won UK Celebrity Big Brother a year ago, also said she would jump at the chance to dance as a same sex-couple here in the UK.

Dancing on Ice has a start date in January 2020.

Other names on the bill for the new series includes our very own Maura Higgins and Republic of Ireland footballer, Kevin Kilbane, as well as former I'm a Celebrity victor Joe Swash and Coronation Street actress Lisa George.

Soap actress Lisa George, Scottish Paralympic sprinter Libby Clegg and Diversity star Perri Kiely are also taking part.

It was recently confirmed long-time judge Jason Gardiner won't be returning, and will be replaced by John Barrowman.

They are the first United Kingdom reality show to do this - beating Strictly Come Dancing to the mark.

But a spokesperson for the BBC said: "We are completely open to the prospect of same-sex pairings between celebrities and pro dancers in the future, should the opportunity arise".
