Nevils said she declined multiple times, but Lauer "just did it", Farrow wrote in the book. The TODAY Show presented this report on this morning's broadcast and co-anchors Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb took a moment after the segment to reflect on what it all meant to discover their former colleague had done this to another co-worker.

Due to her fear over the power Lauer had to help or hurt her career, Nevils admits she embarked on a consensual sexual affair with Lauer. Nevils maintains this specific encounter was nonconsensual as she was both too drunk to consent and repeatedly told him she did not want to have anal sex. She claims that "she bled for days", Farrow writes.

Representatives for Lauer have not yet responded to CNN's requests for comment about the allegations.

When Lauer asked her if she liked it, Farrow wrote, she told him yes, Variety reported.

After a five-month internal investigation, NBC Universal reported in May 2018 that no one in leadership or authority positions at NBC News "received any complaints about Lauer's workplace behavior prior to November 27, 2017". However, she told Farrow it was "completely transactional" and "not a relationship". "She was made to sit in the same meetings as everyone else, discussing the news, and in all of them colleagues loyal to Lauer cast doubt on the claims, and judgment on her".

Farrow writes Lauer invited Nevils to his hotel room after a night of drinks.Once in the room, Nevils alleges Lauer pushed her against the door and kissed her. She told Farrow that she confided in former "Today" host Meredith Vieira three years later, and Vieira urged her to get a lawyer and speak with NBC human resources. "I honestly don't even know what to say about it". After her encounters with Lauer ended, Nevils said she told "like a million people" about her situation with Lauer. In fewer than than 35 hours, NBC investigated and removed Mr. Lauer.

Nevils says she told multiple colleagues and superiors about Lauer's conduct, but nothing came of it until Lauer came under fire during the #MeToo movement in 2017. He said that "some of what is being said about me is untrue or mischaracterized, but there is enough truth in these stories to make me feel embarrassed and ashamed".

Farrow is best known as one of the journalists who broke the story about sexual assault and harassment allegations against Harvey Weinstein. "I regret that my shame is now shared by the people I cherish dearly".

But no allegation of rape had emerged until now. The book suggests that several NBC executives were dismissive of Nevils claims when they first heard about them, and that "The network proposed a script she would have to read, suggesting that she had left to pursue other endeavors, that she was treated well, and that NBC News was a positive example of sexual harassment".

Kotb said, "I think we're just going to continue to process this part of this horrific story, and as you said, our thoughts are with Brooke". "We are absolutely committed to making this a reality - there can be no exception".
