Site Safe is excited to be acknowledging and celebrating some of the many businesses which are doing the hard yards to get serious about mental health. Being healthy emotionally can promote productivity and helps you demonstrate resilience and the ability to cope in the face of life's stresses and adversities. At work? School? In your community?

Beth Cunningham works in the media industry and has taken time off work due to mental health-related reasons; however, her employer was unaware of the true reason behind her absence.

Showing individuals respect and acceptance removes a significant barrier to successfully coping with their illness. When we are free of depression, anxiety, excessive stress and worry, addictions, and other psychological problems, we are more able to live our lives to the fullest. Encourage your coworkers, friends and family to do the same. It's an opportunity for us to come together to raise awareness about mental health and suicide and to learn more about prevention, resources and community-based supports.

This week is Mental Illness Awareness Week in Canada, which coincides with World Mental Health Day focusing on suicide prevention on October 10.

"We have seen a big change in Australia where people are much more comfortable to talk about mental health", he said.

We know how important it is for Ontario families to feel supported throughout their mental health journey by ensuring that services are there to support them, when and where they need them. And to attract the attention of governments so that the issue might be given priority in public health agendas around the world.
