Lionel Messi insists he is not disappointed at Barcelona's failure to secure Neymar's homecoming over the summer transfer window, while admitting he is unsure whether the club pulled out all the stops to bring the Brazilian back into the fold.

The Argentine bares all in a stunning interview after the end of the summer transfer window, where Barcelona tried their hardest (or appeared to anyway) to sign Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), but were unsuccessful.

Neymar's father and agent, Neymar Sr., has also spoken about the failed transfer, lamenting his feeling of being powerless as negotiations between the clubs stalled and eventually fell apart.

"As an agent, you feel weak when there is no structure to allow you to leave and move", he said at a conference, according to Footmercato.

Neymar Sr also revealed that his son was asked by his former teammates to return, with Messi and Luis Suarez believed to be keen on reuniting with the skilful forward at the Camp Nou. Initially, Barcelona was the only side interested in his signature, however, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez made a decision to enter the race for Neymar to make things interesting.

"A Brazilian can only be happy where he is", he said. My son was very happy at Barcelona. "When his friends ask him if he want to go back, it upsets him".

The 27-year-old, however, made his first appearance of the campaign for Brazil during the global break.

"On a sporting level Neymar is one of the best in the world". Have your say in the comments section below.
