"In the middle of the scene, he'll just walk away and walk out", Joker co-writer and director Todd Phillips said. This is what he had to say about how people will feel about the character's journey and more.

The actor not only had to work on capturing the mental state of Arthur Fleck. He had to transform physically to play the role by losing 52 pounds.

In an emotional speech, he said River helped him rediscover his love of acting after early experiences as a child actor left him disillusioned. "There's also a book about political assassins that I thought was interesting, and breaks down the different types of personalities that do those sorts of things [I do in the film]". "All you get is more questions".

There are many versions of the Joker by now.

Batman's traditional nemesis has been famously played by the likes of Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger, but the "Gladiator" star's interpretation is arguably the most radical yet. If he was willing to do it, and if people show up to this movie, and Warners came to us and said, 'You know what? "It just felt like something that was our creation in some ways".

Phillips, previously known for frat house comedies including the "Hangover" trilogy and "Road Trip", bristled at suggestions the movie was a major departure for him.

If Todd Phillips' Joker had our curiosity at first, after its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival it definitely got our attention. "Of course, there's a lot of culture of that right now". "I don't know who's really giving me this award, who's responsible for this or why", he told the crowd.

Banderas told AFP the story had to be presented as comedy "because otherwise we can cry", while Oldman said they wanted to portray a "corrupt circus". Though the rumor of a possible on-screen pairing of Phoenix's Joker and Pattinson's Batman has been very much spinning of late (especially after Pattinson's recent slip of the tongue seemed to confirm it), Phillips himself used a recent interview with Variety as a chance to squash those rumors pretty definitively.
