Asher Wojciechowski (2-5, 4.89) gets the start for Baltimore.

BALTIMORE-Justin Verlander lasted only five innings against the Baltimore Orioles and walked off the mound in position to take his first loss since early July.

The total of six homers allowed on Saturday came a day after Baltimore ended a 12-game streak of allowing multiple homers.

Yordan Alvarez on Saturday hit three homers, including a grand slam, and drove in seven runs as the visiting Houston Astros finished with six homers overall and defeated the Baltimore Orioles 23-2.

Houston had 25 hits for its 23 runs on Saturday, scoring in all but two of the nine innings.

According to oddsmakers, the Astros are favored on the road, as they are getting odds of -400 to win. Houston leads the league in hitting with a.275 batting average, Michael Brantley leads the team with an average of.324. Just one pitch early in the game, a couple pitches that I made that were mistakes. "Don't let this be too much of a Debbie downer", he added. At the plate, Baltimore had six hits for its two runs. The Orioles then scored once in the second on a Trey Mancini single.

And that lead was quickly given up when Brantley lined a base hit down the right-field line.

That comical whoopsie allowed Brantley to come all the way around and give the 'Stros a 7-5 lead in the final inning, and it looked like the Orioles were destined for yet another embarrassing defeat. "Obviously, this homestand didn't go as we wanted it to (but) to leave here with a win like that over a team like that is great".

Alvarez led the offensive charge, but the Astros also got homers from Alex Bregman (three RBIs), Jose Altuve (three RBIs) and Carlos Correa (two RBIs). The veteran right-hander struck out 11 - the fifth straight game where he's fanned at least 10.

"Very unusual for him to go five innings and be out of the game, but they worked him tough", Astros manager AJ Hinch said. With Davis leading the way, the Orioles struck out 16 times.

The O's also may be without one of their top power hitters Sunday, as Renato Nunez fouled a ball off his left ankle Saturday.

After a close call on Friday, the Houston Astros absolutely thrashed the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday.
