We see each of the sisters' passions throughout the trailer, and how being a woman in 1860's New England adds road blocks to their respective paths. This adaptation is the follow-up to Lady Bird from writer/director Greta Gerwig, and she has put together one incredible cast for this one. The film is the eighth adaption of Louise May Alcott's late-19th century novel following the March girls, Meg, Jo, Amy and Beth in the aftermath of the Civil War. But low and behold, this movie actually looks fun! It doesn't seem weighed down by the pretense of many period pieces and, true to Gerwig's style the trailer exhibits an intense interest in the artistic and creative lives of its characters. However, rather than coming off as discordant or ahistorical, the approach works.

As old-fashioned a tale as Little Women is, there's something wonderfully timeless about the four strong-willed sisters who only have each other at the height of wartorn America.

With the likes of Florence Pugh, Emma Watson, Saoirse Ronan, Timothée Chalamet and Eliza Scanlen starring, this Little Women also boasts the considerable thesping power of Meryl Streep, Laura Dern and Bob Odenkirk, as Gerwig directs her own adaptation.

Little Women reaches USA theatres December 25 and United Kingdom cinemas December 26.
