Little Women trailer: first look at Greta Gerwig's starry adaptation

The trailer for Greta Gerwig's "Little Women" is here. They even befriend a young neighbor Laurie (Chalamet), who is instantly welcomed in the tight-knit family unit made up of the tomboyish Jo, the eldest Meg (Emma Watson), the kind-hearted Beth (Eliza Scanlen), and the spoiled Amy (Florence Pugh). But low and behold, this movie actually looks fun! It doesn't seem weighed down by the pretense of many period pieces and, true to Gerwig's style the trailer exhibits an intense interest in the artistic and creative lives of its characters. However, rather than coming off as discordant or ahistorical, the approach works. I'm sure some folks will just see this as Lady Bird: 1868, but this doesn't simply feel like a rehash. Instead, Gerwig has clearly found her own take on the material, and I can't wait to see how it all shakes out when it arrives in theaters on Christmas.

Louisa May Alcott's Little Women is one of those classic stories that filmmakers just can't stop adapting for screens both big and small.

The film opens in the USA on Christmas Day and in the United Kingdom on Boxing Day. The two co-starred in her 2017 hit "Lady Bird", which was nominated for "Best Picture" and "Best Original Screenplay", "Best Actress" (Ronan) and "Best Supporting Actress" and "Best Director" (Gerwig) at the Academy Awards that year.
