The event, a luncheon hosted by the billionaire, will take place at his Southampton home on Friday, The Washington Post reports, with tickets to the event priced as high as $250,000.

Shannon Coulter, founder of the #GrabYourWallet movement, which urges Americans to stop shopping at companies connected with Mr Trump, tweeted that she was adding SoulCycle and Equinox to the boycott list.

As chairman of Related Companies, Ross has built high-profile projects like Hudson Yards, a $25 billion development in Manhattan's West Side that is the most expensive in US history.

"Why is Stephan Ross hosting a fund raiser for trump???

We believed it was a safe space for people like us", reads a Change.org petition calling on Ross to cancel the fundraiser. Ross is also the owner of the Miami Dolphins, the Hard Rock Stadium, the Time Warner Center and Hudson Yards.

Apparently, hundreds of members of the health clubs for New York's elite have inundated the company with canceled memberships, and calls for boycotts and protests, multiple sources said.

Real estate mogul Stephen Ross is in hot water.

Lastly, on Wednesday SoulCycle and Equinox both issued similar statements claiming Ross is merely a "passive investor".

Several senior members of the administration, party and campaign are also scheduled to appear, as are some Trump family members, according to the invites.

A reception is scheduled to follow the lunch at the 17,000-square-foot Bridgehampton estate of Joe Farrell, a real estate developer in NY.

"We're offering 50 percent off your first month of membership or 25 percent off a class package!" manager Erica Giovinazzo posted on Facebook.

"We joined this gym because we believed it shared our values". But in a statement, Ross said he has known Trump for 40 years and that he has "never been bashful about expressing" opinions with him.

Money raised at the two fundraisers in the Hamptons will go toward Trump Victory, a fundraising committee for the Trump 2020 campaign and the Republican National Committee.

No one from Related Companies was immediately available for comment, although in a statement to USA broadcasters, including CNN and CBS, Mr Ross said: "I always have been an active participant in the democratic process".
