Eddie Jones tells axed quartet they can still make the cut

England men's head coach Eddie Jones has called up 33 players to assemble today at Pennyhill Park ahead of England's first Quilter International against Wales on Sunday 11 August at Twickenham Stadium KO 2pm.

All four players were included in England's 12-day training camp in Treviso, Italy but failed to make a big enough impression to be included in the squad.

England play a return match against Wales on August 17 in Cardiff followed by games against Ireland (August 24), and Italy (September 6) prior to departure for Japan.

Jones has repeatedly tweaked the World Cup training squad he announced a month ago but dropping Te'o from this week's camp in Bagshot would be perplexing if he is to be included on Monday given that he is not attached to a Premiership club, having left Worcester this summer.

The squad includes four uncapped players with Jack Singleton and Lewis Ludlam joining the forwards and New Zealand-born scrum-half Willi Heinz and former England and Britain Sevens star Ruaridh McConnochie in the backs.

Scrum-half Willi Heinz is also in line for a surprise first cap after being included at the expense of Spencer.

Te'o has always been a favourite of Jones', while Spencer ended the 2019 Six Nations as England's second choice scrum-half behind Ben Youngs. Apart from the four players, Exeter's Jack Nowell will continue his rehabilitation in the camp.

"By the time we fly out [to Japan] on the eighth of September we will be ready to win the Rugby World Cup". We are not there yet but we have four games to get ready.

Prop Mako Vunipola is also not in contention to face the Welsh, but is said to be progressing well from his hamstring problem.
