A final round of 58 in the four-ball by the pairing of Jin Young Ko and Minjee Lee, world numbers two and four, has seen the impressive duo fall short of winning the inaugural Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational in Midland in MI.

Suwannapura and Clanton carded a 7-under-par 63 at Midland Country Club, and they sit at 16-under 194 heading into the final round. "I couldn't ask for a better partner".

"Definitely we both played better than we did the last time we played fourballs (two days earlier)", the Aussie world No.4 said.

"Jin Young had so many birdies today, so I just tried to keep up pretty much".

Clanton's victory gave her spots in the field for next week's Evian Championship and the following week's Women's British Open.

"Each hole's an opportunity", Clanton said. "We just felt really good after yesterday". "I guess I was quite down for the first couple years".

The all-Canadian team of Brooke Henderson from Smiths Falls, Ont., and Alena Sharp of Hamilton finished alone in fifth place at 19 under after carding a 61.

Others were Robyn Choi, alongside Jaclyn Lee in a share of 36th, while Sarah Kemp partnered Xiyu Lin en route to 39th.

So the win was full of emotional storylines and provides the winning combination with security of tenure on the LPGA Tour for the next two years at least.

Clanton and Suwannapura each bogeyed the first hole, then each had eight birdies. "One of those things where as many fairways and greens as you can hit and if the putts go in, great". "I want to play next year with Minjee", Ko said. We're ready to go.

In the LPGA's first-ever team event, the pairs played the first and third rounds using an alternate-shot format, with the players take turns playing the same ball.

Sisters Ariya and Moriya Jutanugarn had a 64 to move into a tie for second at 11-under with Simin Feng-Ruixin Liu (67), Na Yeon Choi-Jenny Shin (67) and Paula Creamer-Morgan Pressel (69). "Need to be patient with alternate shot, but also even best ball we still have to be patient because we feel like you going to make birdie hole after hole, but it's not going to happen".
