Alvarez broke out with his Evil Dead and followed it up with the acclaimed thriller Don't Breathe and the 2018 Dragon Tattoo entry The Girl in the Spider's Web.

"Sam Raimi has hinted that a yet another installment of his highly successful 'Evil Dead" franchise might be on the cards as he is working on some ideas for a potential follow-up. Ash vs The Evil Dead was the last time we saw this franchise back but Raimi wants to bring it back on a bigger scale. For starters, Bruce Campbell has been reprising his role as Ash in both new and upcoming video game appearances including an all-new Evil Dead game.

"I'd love to make another [movie]", Raimi said. In an interview with Bloody-Disgusting, Raimi said he is talking with series star Bruce Campbell and long-time producer Rob Tapert about several possible directions. But the 2013 reboot - which Raimi called "a part of the Evil Dead universe but not part of the Bruce Campbell storyline" - featured an entirely new cast, and was helmed by then-unknown director Fede Álvarez.

Unlike Harrison Ford, Campbell is more than okay with a new actor taking on the role of Ash, "I'd be perfectly fine if they find some young Ash, do some new incarnation, let some other poor bastard get covered in blood".

Speaking of the remake, Raimi has also confirmed that Alvarez's remake is a park of the Evil Dead universe, but is not a part of the Bruce Campbell storyline. But if not, I'm very happy to work with, if Fede [Álvarez] would come back and make the sequel... but he's such a big shot now.

Finally, Raimi added that "there's also a third possibility we're talking about". He ended by saying that if everything goes as planned, "You may see some action on the Evil Dead movie in the next six months".

Raimi did make note of Campbell's "retirement" from the character a year ago, as well as a desire to bring back Fede Alvarez, the director of the 2013 Evil Dead remake.

It seems fans might have to wait a little longer for a new Evil Dead movie but in the meantime, fans of Raimi's work can check out his latest film Crawl, releasing in theatres on July 11, 2019.
