Griezmann, meanwhile, is preparing to fly to Catalunya, where he will sign a five-year deal to stay at Camp Nou until 2024. Atletico released a statement last week, criticizing the player for negotiating a deal with Barcelona in March and failing to show up to training while still under contract, awaiting the move.

Barcelona are hoping they can announce the signing of Antoine Griezmann on Friday, if everything goes as planned, Mundo Deportivo reports. "He made a difference with Atletico Madrid and with France".

Griezmann joined Atletico in 2014 and has scored 133 goals in 257 appearances lifting the Copa del Rey as well as the Europa League.

However, his departure from the team hasn't been amicable and recently he followed through with his threat of not showing up for training.

El Chiringuito have confirmed the same, and say that the buyout clause will be paid off soon so that Griezmann can be cleared to become a Barcelona player ahead of the new season in La Liga.

The Griezmann saga has been going on for a while now, and despite heavy interest from Barca a year ago as well, the Frenchman had chose to stay put at Atletico.

According to Marca, Diego Simeone wanted Portuguese right-back Nelson Semedo included in the deal, but this was ruled out by Barcelona as boss Ernesto Valverde sees the defender as an important member of the squad.

This is reportedly less than what he is now earning at Atletico, but was necessary to facilitate his move to Catalonia.
