Early Prime Day Deal: New MacBook Air Now $999

Photographers who don't need much in way of processing power can buy a MacBook Air for $100 less (the Air now starts at $1,100), and Apple's thinnest laptop now comes with a TrueTone display. Remains to see when are they going to hit the market, what's new, and if Apple will be able to price them low enough to make them a worthy choice for as many potential customers as possible. For the Air, that's a significant point, as the system received its largest overhaul in a decade just a year ago. A brand new story out of Asia seems to give credence to those rumors, as the same local supplier is expected to provide components for both products. Our testing is ongoing, but here's an early look at some of the initial results and our first hands-on impressions.

Although it is nearly certain that those who are waiting for a new MacBook will not get it before 2020 kicks in, it seems that Apple will start making a 16-inch MacBook Pro before the end of this calendar year.

Now that the MacBook and previous-gen MacBook Air have been eliminated from Apple's lineup, the new MacBook Air is Apple's entry-level machine. It's already found on iPad Pro, recent iPhones and some MacBook Pros.

Are you disappointed that Apple has stopped selling the old MacBook Air and the 12-inch Retina MacBook?

More consequential are the changes to the 13-inch MacBook Pro. While the Pro is getting a big speed boost, I wouldn't expect any real change in the MacBook Air performance - the biggest move there is the price.
