Cheddar, known as Captain Holt's "cute secret weapon", was a key character on the show.

In truly terrible news, it has been reported that Stewart, the Corgi who played Cheddar on Brooklyn Nine-Nine has passed away.

Stewart died "peacefully" in his owner's arms during a day at the beach.

The owner recounted that Stewart spent his final moments at the beach, "frolicking in the surf" and enjoying a picnic of In-N-Out burgers.

"We relaxed in the sun and just enjoyed each other's company".

The corgi that rose to fame in his role as Cheddar on the show Brooklyn Nine-Nine has died.

Cheddar has been the focal point of a number of hilarious sequences, namely during the annual Halloween heist competitions between Captain Holt and Detective Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg), including switching of corgis during one episode in which Holt is outraged at his well-trained pet for deceiving him and hiding. His trainer, Michael W. Miliotti, had previously taken Entertainment Weekly behind the scenes to see what Stewart's days were like on set.

He is survived by his sister and equally talented actress Stella - who has since taken over the iconic TV role. "Every time he began that monologue, Cheddar, who was just off screen, would let out a soft, unending howl, which cracked up everyone on set". That changes when Ray Holt, a man with a lot to prove, becomes the new commanding officer of Brooklyn's 99th precinct.
