Four of the suspects were arrested on Tuesday outside of Santo Domingo, where Ortiz was shot Sunday night while seated outside at a popular night club.

Security camera footage showed that the attempt to kill Ortiz was carried out by two men on a motorcycle-Acosta and Eddy Feliz Garcia, the first man arrested in connection with the shooting-and two other groups of people in cars.

Boston Red Sox Legend David Ortiz is now able to sit up and has taken some steps as he continues to recover from surgery to treat a gunshot wound at Massachusett General Hospital in Boston, his wife, Tiffany, announced in a statement issued on her behalf by the Boston Red Sox.

Dominican doctors removed Ortiz's gallbladder and part of his intestine. The former Red Sox slugger was active on the social scene there, hitting nightspots with friends who included TV personalities and Dominican reggaeton musicians. "He's a fan of David's", the attorney, Deivi Solano, said Tuesday.

The 43-year-old retired athlete was flown to Boston on Monday night for further treatment, arriving in an air ambulance provided by the Red Sox.

Surgeons in the Dominican Republic operated for six hours to fix his wounds before Ortiz, who ended his 20-year Major League Baseball career in 2016, was flown to Boston once he was in a stable condition on Monday before having further surgery.

Garcia made an initial court appearance in Santo Domingo Tuesday night and remains in police custody.

Ortiz spokesman Leo López told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Ortiz is expected to stay in intensive care for at least 48 hours. Once he was stable, Ortiz was moved to Boston where he received a second surgery just to make sure that he was going to be okay. The suspected gunman is reportedly among the people taken into custody. The gunman has not been arrested, and police say they do not yet have a motive.
